What ought?

So today, I was in class, and somewhat sleeping a little, on and off, yknow that kind of thing.

The class was on Nietzsche's ethics. Now, I am not expert on Nietzsche's ethics. let me just record my comments lest I wanna develop it further into an essay or something like that.

So Nietzsche argues that 19th century morality has got it wrong. The strong should not care about the weak and instead do what it takes to flourish. The claim is that those with potential should develop the potential into developing something worthwhile. He also said Christianity is slave morality (a claim I agree with, with some qualifiers). The idea is something similar to natural justice. And also about the will to power.

Whatever, my comment is that he cannot ground these on evolution and noticing "natural" justice such as the lion killing the lamb. Most simply is the is-ought gap. Secondly, natural in that sense can not be denied. What happens is natural and what does not happen is not natural. Unless his morality becomes mainstream, it is not natural. Power and nature by definition, always is what wins and what happens. If the weak "better" the strong through morality then the strong are simply not powerful, but weak, and natural justice is the "weak" lion rekting the "strong" aristocratic lamb. What I am saying is that there is nothing to say except that "the strong is strong and by nature, wins". There is no "potential to develop or morality that inhibits the strong from being strong" if "morality hinders the "strong", they are simply weak".

In a conversation with the prof, he suggests that I am using a different conception of nature from Nietzsche. The idea of nature then, is like uninhibited potential? Like it is the nature of a person born with smarts and good genes to be successful or something like that. But once this "potential" is added in, I think it becomes very weak. Who is the judge of potential and what is "unfulfilled potential"? What is is what is.

Anyway, from what it says, im pretty sure he either jumps "nature" using the first definition in the talk about evolution and what is seen in the natural world and the second in his normative thrust or that the second usage doesnt apply to the forst.

[[State ought to help those 'unluckier' in their endownment? Uhhhhh... No?]]

Yknow, I am somehow bored on exchange. Not as if I have nothing to do, I have stuff to do, I just don't want to do it.
So just read this article. And yeah, I really think I think too much about myself. Let me be less self-focused. Please.
Everything revolves around the big I, but I'd rather it not. I'd really rather it not.
Even these writings, in prayers. All about the I. The "I think", the "I ought". I mean (lol) it is true that I can only control myself. But yeah, I think (lol again) that there is much room to focus on others.

Indeed, I need to tear down the self-image that I have built. Or not upkeep it so tremendously. It is the source of pride, I think. Not just self-image, the image that I portray towards others.

I think my current mindset towards Christianity is one that fuses competitiveness and excellence with Christianity. Or perhaps Christianity that highlights these aspects (which I don't think are more important than others, just perhaps less seen).

How many times does one pray "forgive me for I have sinned" and "protect me from sin, give me strength to overcome sin and flee from temptation". Pride really comes before a fall. I think there is causation there.

[[Does Christianity follow 'might is right' in following God?]]

More backlog.

Anyway, a quick update on what i've been up to. So I've somewhat settled into this new place and life is pretty good. Taking my time to find people whom I will keep. Haven't been really trying to explore new things actively. I explore new things sorta like naturally without active effort. Found some Frisbee which seems to be friendly and fun enough. CU remains somewhat unexplored. Church is more or less done. Dota sucks balls, perhaps I should quit it too.

And the answer to the above question seems to be... absolutely. Without might or power, God wouldn't be God. And there would be no reason to follow him eh? There is no claim a powerless "god" makes over our lives. And no compellation (maybe I created a new word). It seems that power, by definition, is that which is most important. Hence, Christianity might be "will to might/power" afterall. Very well be.

[[Must there be trends? What if God created everything individually?]]

Decided to be productive. Now to clear backlog.

So the thought is, are things naturally organised into certain categories. Must there necessarily be trends. Must there be commonalities. Are these commonalities intentional?

The argument is that God having created all things, there is a certain style he does it, threads of being a common creator. For instance most living things are carbon based and there are only a few elements used to make amino acids of which there are only a few (more) used to make proteins. The so-called "template" is supposed to be evidence of one creator. Like how an artist would have a distinctive style in his creation, so does God.

Of course, the evolutionist explains it a certain other way. A evolution-Christianity fused and confused person would still have some stuff to say about this. Namely that through evolution, God had his style. So why no silicon based life forms, or why no atoms with botons in addition to neutrons and protons and electrons or why no weird electron configuration.

But God is unlike all human artists.

What are we? Are we individuals or are we just a cog in the machine. or are we parts of a greater individual? This greater individual can be one's family, or clan, or species. or one's identity as an animal, or one as a living thing.

Hmmm. This isnt the best piece, but I guess, i have to start somewhere. Tired. need sleep.
